Ed Richo of Brantley Termite and Pest Control predicts a busy season coming up. "Termites swarm when the humidity goes up over 78%. The termite mud tubes absorb the moisture and that signals the swarm." The subteranian termite colony can eat up to 7 lbs of wood a year. This doesn't sound like much until you think of where the wood comes from. "The termites eat the structural parts of your home like floor joists, wall studs, wood foundations. These are really important for keeping your home safe." Things to look for include moisture damage, mud tubes, termite wings that may be found around window sills. If you think you have a termite problem, consult a professional as soon as possible, and certainly before the swarm due next month. Ed Richo is owner of Brantley Pest Control and has been in business in business for 35 years in Pinellas County. |
