The City of Dunedin Concert Band will perform their annual Memorial Day and Patriotic concert entitled “Within These Hallowed Halls” conducted by Dr. Louis Alan Zagar. The performance will be held on Friday, May 14, 2010, at 8:00 p.m. at the Dunedin Community Center, 1920 Pinehurst Avenue, Dunedin. This always well-attended concert is free and open to the public. There is a free-will donation opportunity at the concert’s conclusion. Now in its 28th year of performing in the city, the 70 member Dunedin Concert Band will present a moving tribute to all those who have served America in our Armed Forces. The concert will include a special homage to “The Greatest Generation,” whose men and women served during WW II and helped to preserve freedom and liberty. The concert will be narrated by Charles R. Meyer, USAF (ret.). Beginning with their opening number “Strike Up the Band” by George Gershwin, the performance will continue with members of the City of Dunedin Pipe Band performing “Amazing Grace”. In addition, the concert will feature a touching and emotional video tribute entitled “American Anthem” from the PBS TV series, “The War” by Ken Burns. Members of the Sons of the American Revolution along with a Dunedin Scout Troop will have the privilege of “Presenting the Colors” to the audience on stage during the patriotic march “True Blue” by Karl L. King. Not to be missed will be John Philip Sousa’s famous “US Field Artillery March, complete with rifle shots, just as he wrote it! In an emotional remembrance of those whose lives were lost during wartime, the Dunedin Concert Band will be performing “Largo”, a selection that is traditionally played for those lost during times of world conflict and based on the old spiritual, “Goin’ Home.” A community sing will be offered during the playing of the hit song “United We Stand” and “America the Beautiful”. Of course, no Memorial Day/Patriotic concert would be complete without recognizing the men and women of all branches of our Armed Forces who will be honored during the playing of the now famous “Armed Forces Salute.” To enjoy this evening of a great American experience, please plan on attending this always moving concert to honor America. Friday, May 14, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. at the Dunedin Community Center, 1920 Pinehurst Avenue, Dunedin. |
