In August 2000, Babylon reached #5 on the U.K. singles chart and remains Gray’s biggest U.K. hit to date. In the United States, the albums received a boost from Dave Matthews, who made it the first release on ATO Records, the record company he co-founded. Babylon was also the first of three U.S. chart entries for Gray to date. In Ireland, White Ladder remains the biggest-selling album ever. Gray’s follow-up in 2002, A New Day at Midnight, went straight to #1 on the U.K. charts, selling nearly 150,000 copies the first week of release, and reaching platinum selling status within a year. Eventually it was certified four-times platinum overall and was the second-biggest selling album by a U.K. artist in 2002.
